The recently retired Minnesota state flag, used from 1957 to 2023, featured the state seal set against a blue field. The seal depicts a Native American on horseback and a settler plowing a field. Surrounding the seal are 19 stars, representing Minnesota's position as the 19th state to join the Union. A red ribbon displays the state's name. Finally, a wreath of pink-and-white Lady’s Slipper flowers — Minnesota's state flower — encircle the design.
