On August 31, 2026, the Governor of the State of Oklahoma issued a statement in Honor of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Officer David Taylor ordering the flag of the United States and the flag of Oklahoma to be displayed at half-staff from sunrise on September 1, 2026 until sunset on September 4, 2026.

OKLAHOMA CITY (August 31, 2026) - Governor Kevin Stitt has ordered all American and Oklahoma flags on state property to be lowered to half-staff in honor of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Officer David Taylor. Officer Taylor died while helping evacuate residents threatened by the Railroad South Fire near Indiahoma.
Officer Taylor went door to door alongside local emergency crews to help families evacuate the fast-moving wildfire. His actions reflect extraordinary courage, selflessness and devotion to protecting others.
“Officer Taylor made the ultimate sacrifice while serving others,” said Governor Stitt. “He put the safety of Oklahoma families ahead of his own, and his courage will not be forgotten. Sarah and I are praying for his family and his fellow officers.”
Flags shall be flown at half-staff on all state property from sunrise on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, until sunset on Friday, September 4, 2026.
