Flag Snap Hooks: Selection Made Easy. . .
At Liberty Flags, we answer quite a few questions about flag snap hooks.
This is no surprise - checking snap hooks for wear and tear is one of the most frequent routine flagpole maintenance tasks and requires attention just about every three months.
Choosing Snap Hooks That Are Right for You. . .
Snap hooks can be chosen for a variety of personal preferences, but for the best results here are some guidelines to follow.
Snap hooks are offered in three common material varieties; nylon, brass, and stainless steel.
-
Nylon snap hooks can be a good choice for residential flag flyers. In residential areas, noise is often a consideration, and nylon snap hooks create less noise when they come into contact with the flagpole than metal snaps.
- Nylon snaps are best-suited for 2' x 3' or 3' x 5' flags, usually 2 per flag.
- Flagpoles in commercial areas or larger residential flagpoles areas are more apt to use brass snap hooks or stainless steel snap hooks.
- Brass snap hooks are best-suited to sizes 3’x5’ to 6x’10’ – one per grommet in your flag (normally 2).
-
Stainless steel snap hooks are best suited to sizes 8’x12’ to 30’x60’ – one per grommet or D-ring in your flag as follows:
- 8’x12’ (2) d-rings; 2 snaps
- 10’x15’ – 12’x18’ (1) grommet, (2) d-rings; 3 snaps
- 15’x25’, 20’x30’, 20’x38’ (5) grommets, (2) d-rings; 7 snaps
- 30’x50’, 30’x60’ (7) grommets, (2) d-rings; 9 snaps
In the video below, you will see how to determine which snap hooks are a good fit for your flag flying situation, as well as how to attach them.
Is There Protection for Snap Hooks?
Snap hook covers are a great way to reduce the noise caused by snap hooks clanging against their flagpoles. Plus, snap hook covers can prolong the life of the snap hooks and can help to protect flagpoles with special finishes.
- 2 sizes available: small for small and medium snaps; large for large snaps.
