ILLINOIS

100% American-made Illinois State Flags

Although Illinois officially became the 21st State of the Union on December 03, 1818, the Illinois State Flag was not adopted until 1915.

In 1871, Chicago came together and rose up to face a devastating challenge. What started out as a small fire in Patrick and Catherine O’Leary’s barn quickly spread to what became known as the Great Chicago Fire.

Today, Chicago, Illinois is home to one of the tallest buildings in North America, Willis Tower, which until 2009 was known as and is still commonly referred to as Sears Tower. Willis tower was the tallest building until the completion of One World Trade Center, otherwise known as the Freedom Tower, in New York City.

Known as the “Prairie State”, Illinois boasts some of the world’s most valuable and productive farmland. Notable agricultural products are corn, soybeans, hogs, cattle, dairy products, and wheat. Illinois is usually either the first or second state with the highest production of soybeans, depending on the given year.

The Illinois State Flag, which was adopted in 1915, consists of the seal of Illinois on a white background, with the word "Illinois" underneath the seal. The word "Illinois" was not added to the flag until 1970.
