CONNECTICUT

100% American-made Connecticut State Flags

On January 9, 1788, Connecticut joined the United States as the fifth state of the Union. Connecticut is the southern-most state of the New England region, which also includes Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Although Connecticut is the third smallest state in terms of landmass, it ranks fourth as the most densely populated. Connecticut’s per-capita personal income is also ranked higher than any other state in the US.

The Connecticut State Flag was introduced in 1895 by Governor Owen Vincent Coffin, but it was not approved by the Connecticut General Assembly until 1897. The Connecticut State Flag features a white and gold baroque shield on a background of azure blue. Inside the shield are three grapevines, each bearing three bunches of purple grapes. The banner below the shield contains Connecticut's state motto, which reads, "Qui Transtulit Sustinet", Latin for "He who transplanted still sustains".
